Reindeer Auto ships to the USA from anywhere in Canada, including these major cities:

  • Edmonton
  • Calgary
  • Saskatoon
  • Winnipeg
  • Ottawa
  • Montreal
  • Toronto or
  • Quebec City

When shipping to and from Canada it’s critical to review and  gather paperwork. We can help in this department! All customs paperwork must be completed and approved prior to transport. International transport comes with some additional logistics. Long story short:  you must have all your documentation in order or you run the risk of delays and rejections.

Typically, for transport from Canada to the US, you’ll need to make sure you have:

  • 299 Entry Form.  This is the form you’ll use if a vehicle from Canada that is going to be in the U.S. for equal to or less than 12 months (e.g. snowbirds or those with short-term Visas). Cars with this type of entry form cannot:
  • Be traded or sold within the United States border

They can still be either sold or traded while on Canadian land. This form also requires that the vehicle includes registration within the United States.

  • 3299 Form. This form is the Declaration of Free Entry of Unaccompanied Articles which includes identification of the person responsible for bringing the effects into the U.S.

The requirements for this form include:

  • Your name printed on your passport or other official document
  • Date of birth
  • In-person arrival date
  • US home address and contact phone number

Note: PO Boxes are not accepted

  • 7501 Entry Form.  This is the form you’ll use for vehicles coming from Canada and will be in the United States  for over a year. These vehicles will be registered as a United States vehicle for the duration of their stay.

You will also file for 7501 Form if:

  • A car from the United States was transported to Canada and the title from the United States was given up during the transport process and will now be returning to the U.S., the  car will then have to be retitled and re-registered within the United States.
  •  A vehicle titled in the United States has switched owners in Canada and the new owner of the car is transporting the car back to the United States with proof of the original United States title.
  • E-15 Form. You must complete the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) Form E-15 Certificate of Destruction/Exportation which includes a list of all of your personal items. Failing to complete this form may result in paying duty and taxes on personal items when you return to Canada.
  • Official identification. You will need a copy of your passport or a copy of your driver’s license and birth certificate.
  • Proof of ownership. A copy of vehicle ownership
  • Car Courier letter.  An official letter will also be required proving that the courier you have chosen has permission to transport the automobile across the border.

When you return to Canada you must have a copy of the completed CBSA Form E-24 Personal Exemption CBSA Declaration. This should list all of the items being driven back in your car. You should also bring along a copy of the completed Form E-15 when your vehicle initially entered the U.S. Pro-tip: Make sure to keep the original copy of Form E-15 to present at airport Customs which details items that will follow separately.

Shipping to/from Hawaii

When shipping to Hawaii our company will load your car onto a trailer transported to one of the several ports located on the West Coast.

These ports include:

  • Long Beach,  CA
  • Oakland, CA
  • San Diego, CA
  • Seattle or Tacoma, Washington.

From here, your vehicle will be transferred onto a boat and shipped across the Pacific Ocean to the Hawaiian port of your choice.

These ports include:

  • Honolulu – Oahu
  • Hilo – Big Island
  • Kawaihae – Big Island
  • Kahului – Maui
  • Nawiliwili – Kauai

International Shipping to the U.S.

When shipping  your car into the U.S. from a foreign country, you must first consider if  it is a model not sold in the U.S. as this requires additional paperwork.  We can help make sure it’s approved for transport.

In order to be allowed into the U.S. it must align with the standard of the Environmental Protection Agency. The Overview of EPA primarily assesses if a vehicle and/or manufacturer:

  •   Is a U.S. version vehicle
  •  Meets conformity with federal emission requirements
  •   Conforms to all EPA regulations.

A vehicle lacking the EPA emission compliance, engine, vehicle, or equipment manufacturer, model and serial label  will be considered non-complying.

Pro-tip:  If the VIN number begins between 1 and 5 , then it is built in North America. While some antiques or custom cars may not have this, it’s typically a good rule of thumb.

Use this checklist to help make sure your vehicle is authorized for transport:

  • Manufacture date
  • Model year, make, and model of vehicle
  • Whether the vehicle conforms to U.S. emissions requirements
  • If a catalytic converter was present at time of manufacture
  • Type of fuel the vehicle uses
  • Vehicle weight for trucks
General Shipping Considerations

There are a lot of moving parts when it comes to shipping a vehicle. We can help assess your individual shipping details but it’s important to keep the following in mind:

Size of the vehicle. While we ship all sizes and types of vehicles, larger vehicles (e.g., buses, vans, or trailers) simply cost more to ship than smaller ones. We can assess your vehicle in order to best determine cost per size.

Delivery times. Often, expedited service may include extra fees. You may request expedited car shipping, Same Day Pick Up, or Guaranteed Transport Times, but you’ll want to check with a relocation coordinator to see if this service is available in your area.

Vehicle condition. Older cars or vehicles which are non-operational can be more expensive depending on the labor required to load and haul. The more difficult it is to handle and/or operate a vehicle, the more expensive it tends to be. International permits, fees and/or taxes. Every country handles their import and export fees differently. While our relocation coordinators can certainly provide detailed information, it’s important to understand that certain additional fees may be required depending on the delivery location.

How to Properly Prepare Your Vehicle for Shipping

While we are here to do the heavy lifting, there’s quite a few things you’ll need to do ahead of time which can help ease the process!

  1. Wash your car. Inspection goes much more quickly when your vehicle is as clean as possible. A clean car also helps our team run a more efficient evaluation of the vehicle prior to transporting.
  2. Have a full tank.  For a domestic relocation the gas tank should be at least a quarter full, but no more than half- full.  If your vehicle is being transported internationally, it’s recommended that you keep the gas level below a quarter tank, or it may be rejected.
  3. Watch out for antennas.  All external antennas should be lowered and/or removed, including temporary antennas.
  4. Have a spare set of keys.  The US Department of Transportation (DOT) requires the carrier to have one set of keys for all entry points (e.g. the ignition, trunk and glove box keys). If the vehicle can be accessed without a remote, please remove any remote or key fob from the key chain that is provided to the carrier.
  5. Disable  alarms.  Make sure all alarms are shut off and include any special start-up/disarmament instructions for your carrier. Failure to communicate these kinds of instructions can lead to a drained battery which can cause delays.
  6. Remove miscellaneous items.  Additional items and equipment such as luggage, sports equipment and anything not permanently attached to the vehicle should be removed. Personal items cannot be transported in the vehicle and are prohibited by DOT. Stored personal items can add to the overall weight of your vehicle which could cause damage during transport and added costs.  Inspection may also result in non-compliance and ultimate removal of these items.
  7. Declutter. Any after-factory modifications or accessories added to the car are not the transport company’s responsibility.  This may include:
  •  Spoilers
  • Harnesses
  • Air dams
  • Caps
  • Canopies
  •  Tonneau covers
  • Camper shells

Items like this should be removed and shipped separately. This not only helps protect your vehicle, but safeguards both the items and our drivers’ safety.  If  accessories must be shipped with your vehicle it’s best to have them bolted to either the truck bed or another part of the vehicle.
