Do you need to move a vehicle from Saskatoon to Toronto? You don’t have to make the long drive yourself.
Planning to move your vehicle from Saskatoon to Toronto? Here is everything you need to know about shipping your car.
I get it. You are looking at that stretch of highway between Saskatoon and Toronto and you are thinking there has to be a better way. Because there is. That drive is roughly 2,700 kilometres of flat prairie, then endless Ontario forest, and more time behind the wheel than anyone should have to deal with really.
If you are relocating for work or moving back east for family, or maybe you just bought a car that needs to get to Toronto, shipping makes way more sense than trying to white-knuckle it through Manitoba in January.
At Reindeer Logistics, we handle vehicle shipping across Canada every single day. Whether you got a single car or a corporate fleet of vehicles, we can get it done. Here is what you should know.
Let me be honest about what that drive looks like in reality. You are talking multiple days on the road. Hotels you did not budget for. Fast food that gets old real quick by like day two. And if you are doing this in winter? Saskatoon and Toronto do not exactly roll out the red carpet for road trips, if you know what I mean.
Skip the wear and tear. Those 2,700 kilometres add up on your odometer fast. We are talking brake pads, oil changes, tire wear, and just the general stress on your vehicle that comes from days of highway driving. Shipping keeps your car in way better shape.
The math works out. Gas prices keep climbing and they are not coming down anytime soon. Add in meals, lodging, and the time off work you will need, shipping starts looking pretty reasonable when you actually think about it. Get a quote and see for yourself what it actually costs.
Save yourself the headache. You’ve got better things to do than navigate construction zones in Winnipeg or deal with a snowstorm outside Wawa. Ship your vehicle and just fly to Toronto instead.
Before you commit to a shipment, there are a few factors worth considering here.
Planning ahead makes everything go smoother. If you need your vehicle by a specific date, say so when you book and we will work with that. We will give you realistic expectations about when your car will actually arrive in Toronto. Last-minute moves can often be accommodated too so just give us a call if that’s your situation.
This is the big one for most people. We offer free quotes so you can see exactly what you are looking at before making any decisions. No hidden fees, no surprises at the end.
Here is the deal. Canadian weather does not follow anyone's schedule and it never has. Winter storms through Saskatoon and the Great Lakes region can slow things down considerably. Summer construction season has its own set of challenges too. The time of year you ship matters, so factor that into your planning.
Do not forget to ask about coverage because this is important. At Reindeer, we require all carriers to have minimum insurance levels, including liability and cargo coverage. You want to know you are covered if something happens during transport.
You have two options for how your vehicle gets moved. Both work well and it just depends on what matters most to you.
This is the most common way to ship a car by far. Your vehicle gets loaded onto a two-level trailer along with other vehicles. There is no roof or sides on it, so your car is exposed during transport. Open transport is more fuel-efficient, which means it is usually cheaper for you. Drivers can see your vehicle throughout the whole trip to make sure everything stays secure. For most standard cars, trucks, and SUVs, this is definitely the way to go.
If you have something special, maybe a classic car, a luxury vehicle, or just something you really don't want exposed to the elements, then enclosed is the answer. Your car rides inside a fully covered trailer, protected from weather, road debris, basically everything . It does cost more than open transport. But for some vehicles, that extra protection is worth every penny and then some. Only you can decide what makes sense for your situation though.
Never shipped a vehicle before? Here’s what to expect when you go with Reindeer Logistics.
1. Get your free quote
Everything starts here with the quote. We will need some basic info from you: your vehicle make, model, and year. What condition it’s in. Pickup and dropoff postal codes. When you want it picked up and delivered. Any special considerations you might have like aftermarket modifications or whatever.
It takes about 60 seconds.
2. Connect with your relocation coordinator
Once you book, you get paired with a dedicated coordinator and this is your contact person throughout the whole move. They handle scheduling, answer questions, coordinate with carriers, and keep you updated on everything. No automated phone systems, no getting passed around to different departments every time you call. Just one person who knows your shipment inside and out.
Our team has handled thousands of vehicle moves across Canada over the years. You are in good hands with us.
3. Prep your car
Before pickup day arrives, there are some things you need to do on your end. You or someone you designate will need to be there for an exterior inspection of the vehicle. You will walk around, note any existing damage that’s there, and sign a bill of lading. Then your car heads off to Toronto.
5. Final inspection in Toronto
We deliver seven days a week during daylight hours so we can work around your schedule. You will get a call or text at least an hour before delivery so you can be there for it.
Just like in Saskatoon, you will do an inspection when your car arrives in Toronto. Check it over, make sure everything is the same as when it left. Sign off on it, grab your keys, and you are done. Simple as that.
This part is on you, but it’s not complicated at all.
Wash your car. Makes the inspection go way easier. Does not need to be detailed or anything, just clean enough to see the exterior clearly is fine.
Check the fuel gauge. No more than one quarter tank of gas. You need enough for loading and unloading but not so much it adds unnecessary weight to the trailer.
Take out personal items. Everything needs to come out. Console, trunk, backseat, all of it. You cannot store personal belongings in the vehicle during transport.
Disable your alarm. Nobody wants the alarm going off randomly during transport because that is a problem. Turn it off and let us know if there are any special instructions for your vehicle.
Find your spare keys. You will give a set to the carrier when they pick up your vehicle. Keep your key fob or remote if they don’t need it to operate the vehicle.
Remove exterior accessories. Bike racks, ski racks, tonneau covers, bug shields, spoilers, all that stuff. Anything that is not permanently attached needs to come off before shipping.
Check your fluids. Canadian weather changes fast between Saskatoon and Toronto. Make sure coolant and antifreeze levels are good before your car hits the road.
The exact timeline depends on a few different things. Weather, road conditions, seasonal demand and all that. Some of this is predictable and some of it is not.
When you book, you will get a transit window for delivery. Your coordinator will keep you posted throughout with updates so you know when to expect your car in Toronto. No guessing, no wondering where it is.
Cost depends on several different factors: distance, vehicle size and weight, where exactly it is being delivered to, and which transport method you choose to go with.
The best way to know what you are looking at is to get a quote for your specific situation. It takes less than 60 seconds, and it’s free.
